Civil society, Institutionalism and Supreme Audit Institutions in Latin America: experiences in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela
Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) are responsible for the external control of public management. As a consequence, they are key to the democratic order in different countries. Social, community and citizen participation, as well as the initiatives by civil society in the search for transparency and the improvement of public management, are invaluable partners in auditing.
These two statements require that links between them be found. One of the links relates to the way in which institutional and legal structures have facilitated articulation between and acting of SAIs with organizations of the civil society. This articulation has a very broad reach, though not endless. Also, it deals with at least the political, institutional, technical, communicational and informational aspects that determine its reach and impact on public management.
In this sense, the Project “CIVIL SOCIETY, INSTITUTIONALISM AND SUPREME AUDIT INSTITUTIONS IN LATIN AMERICA: experiences in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela” focuses on fostering relations between civil society and SAIs in Latin America and the Caribbean, starting with the identification and analysis of the factors that determine: a) institutional development; b) experiences in the participation of civil society in the public field; c) the implementation of control models by SAIs; and, d) the initiatives that promote governance in the comparative study of the cases in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
This initiative requires the involvement of civil organizations in Latin America.
